Grant criteria Overview

  • WHO CAN APPLY: Voluntary organisations registered with the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations (OCVO) that have a strong focus on environmental action. Organisations need to have an active bank account with a local bank.

MEF will support the development of cutting-edge projects, by building capacity through proper training, equipment and facilitation, leveraging local specialists and developing new partnerships.

Priority will be given to grassroots NGOs who have not received funding from MEF before.

  • WHAT: Applications for funding should align with Conservation Collective’s model and MEF’s Mission Approach pillars.

The proposed projects shall be clear and compelling, with the objective to create measurable and sustainable long-term results, build capacity and encourage participation by the local community.

Ideally, the proposed activities shall be sufficiently visible to leverage additional support from other funding sources, or should support the organisation’s plan towards financial sustainability.

  • WHERE: Anywhere in Malta or in its territorial waters.

  • AMOUNT: For the upcoming Steering Committee meeting, MEF will consider grant proposals for amounts of up to €10,000. Please note that we prefer not to award microgrants of less than €1,000.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Grantees supported under the program are required to submit interim and final reports on dates determined in the grant agreement. Organisations supported by TCEF funds can also be visited at regular intervals and meetings can be requested by STDV and the Conservation Collective.

Grantees are expected to participate in various evaluation activities to measure the impact of the grant. These activities consist of completing various evaluation questionnaires and focus group discussions.

When To Apply

MEF’s call for grants will remain open for the foreseeable future. We hold 3-4 Steering Committee meetings annually, during which MEF reviews and selects successful applications.
