Malta Environment Foundation is a member of Conservation Collective, a global network of local foundations funding effective grass-roots conservation initiatives to protect the environment, restore nature and safeguard against climate change. Our philosophy is built on the principle that people care deeply about the places they know and love. Conservation Collective facilitates funding for the most effective grassroots environmental initiatives, with world-class oversight, management and programme aid.

The power of Conservation Collective is its ability to replicate its model in new locations, to raise funding effectively and efficiently, and share knowledge and expertise across the network. As part of this global network, MEF prides itself on removing barriers, empowering communities and getting things done.

Environmental Impacts

All members of Conservation Collective fund and deliver projects across land, marine and freshwater ecosystems that contribute to at least one of our conservation impacts of:

  • Preserving, protecting and regenerating natural habitats

  • Helping native species to thrive

  • Slowing down and adapting to climate change

  • Reducing pollution

Social, Economic and Cultural Outcomes

We know that long term environmental impact doesn’t happen without cultural, social or economic changes, so we also measure how effectively our work manages to achieve the following outcomes:

  • People having a greater appreciation of the natural world

  • Governments, public institutions and media acting in ways that support the natural world

  • Businesses becoming more nature positive

  • Changes in public behaviour that directly preserves, protects, and regenerates the natural world

  • Reduced waste and improved waste management

  • Increased use of low-carbon technologies

Foundation Activities OVERVIEW OF OUR MODEL

We raise funds from individuals and businesses channelling them to grassroots, nature regeneration projects that benefit both people and the planet.

We carry out all of these activities to create the biggest impact that we can.

We do this by:

  • Working through local communities

  • Encouraging more and more effective environmental philanthropy

  • Funding and supporting projects that directly protect, preserve and regenerate habitats and species, and prevent and slow down climate change

  • Raising people's awareness about the natural world and its value

  • Improving understanding of conservation issues and "what works"

  • Promoting collective action

  • Helping businesses and consumers to act more sustainably

  • Influencing governments and local institutions
